Pathways to Opportunity — Board Game-Based Training on Educational Inequalities

(8-hour adult training program)

This training program aims to help participants understand the factors that contribute to the educational challenges faced by disadvantaged learners, and to prepare them to take an active role in promoting equitable education as responsible citizens. Participants are introduced to the rules and structure of the board game Pathways to Opportunity, which models the educational trajectories of disadvantaged students. Through the use of the game, they deepen their understanding of educational inequalities and develop the skills needed to use the game as a tool for awareness-raising and facilitated discussion.

Reading Culture and Reading Comprehension Development

(30-hour adult training program, including 10 hours of individual work)

This training prepares participants to enhance the reading motivation and reading performance of children and youth aged 10–18. The theoretical component addresses the development and importance of reading, selected aspects of motivation, and their interconnections. Building on this foundation, participants explore and practice exercises and games that support reading development. Through collaborative work and shared reflection, the training provides the knowledge needed to conduct individual or small-group reading sessions and strengthen reading motivation. Participants also learn how to select appropriate texts and design related tasks for student development.

Social Integration and Equitable Education — Supporting Inclusive Education

(30-hour adult training program)

This training program aims to help participants understand the factors that contribute to the educational challenges faced by disadvantaged learners, and to develop the knowledge and skills needed to promote equity in education. The program provides an overview of key characteristics of the Roma community in Hungary, as well as common stereotypes and misconceptions related to Roma people. It also introduces major national initiatives and programs aimed at supporting disadvantaged learners. As part of the training, participants are introduced to the board game Pathways to Opportunity, which models the educational trajectories of disadvantaged students. Through this experience, they deepen their understanding of educational inequalities and develop the skills needed to use the game as a tool for awareness-raising and social engagement.

Board Game Pedagogy

(30-hour adult training program)

This training program equips participants with a broad repertoire of games, as well as the knowledge and confidence needed to teach rules and facilitate gameplay effectively. Participants are introduced to a structured program designed around clear pedagogical goals, and develop the competencies required for planning game-based learning activities. Through playing and learning a variety of games, they gain first-hand experience of the learning process, which is essential for designing and leading board game–based educational sessions. By the end of the training, participants develop a clear understanding of the educational value of board games and are able to use them intentionally to achieve their own pedagogical objectives.

Addressing Educational Disadvantage in Community Programs

(16-hour adult training program, offered upon request)

This training program aims to help participants understand how, as responsible citizens, they can contribute to initiatives that support disadvantaged learners—such as after-school programs, mentoring initiatives, and other projects focused on reducing educational inequalities.

Participants gain insight into the knowledge, tools, and opportunities available for supporting disadvantaged learners in community-based contexts. Participants also learn about the mechanisms of educational segregation and the goals and characteristics of various programs designed to address disadvantage.
